Adams Battles Martin For O'Reilly USCS Riverside Win
TRAVELERS REST, SC - Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL drove the Milk Movers, Inc./Goodson Farms Shaw Ott to his seventh O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series win of the season Friday night at Riverside Speedway. The 82nd series career win for the "Malabar Missile" came in the 30-lap lead-swapping battle with 19-year-old Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL.
"I think this series has the most talented group of young sprint car drivers in the country because these kids are tough," Adams said. "Danny raced me close and clean all race long. He would get by me in lapped traffic, and then I would get back my him."
The race was almost a carryover from the April 15 O'Reilly USCS Riverside Speedway show when Adams and Martin battled for the point. In that race, Martin led for the first 16 laps before Adams took over for the win.
In this latest version, it looked like the tables would turn the other way, as Adams led for the first eight laps before Martin took the lead in lapped traffic coming off turn two.
Just when it looked like "The Hammer" would get sweet revenge on Adams, the lead pair came up on more lapped traffic, and Adams went to the low side of turn four to retake the lead, and go on to his third straight Riverside Speedway win. Martin had to settle for second in the Martin Structures, Inc. Schnee/ZRE, and was the SpeedMart Young Gun of the race for drivers under the age of 25.
"I've never been beat here, and there at the start I was beginning to claim this place as my own when Danny went sailing by me," Adams said.
Third went to Johnny Bridges of Cherryville, NC in the Bridges Motorsports J&J/Bridges Ford after a side-by-side finish with Matt Tiffany of Daytona Beach, FL. Bridges won the Engler Machine and Tool first ten-lap heat race and drew the eighth starting spot.
The next event for the O'Reilly USCS will be Saturday night at I-20 Speedway
in Batesburg, SC.
